Frequently Asked Questions
Performance Edge Physiotherapy Clinic
FAQ's
No, you don’t need a referral to see a physiotherapist. We are first-contact practitioners, which means you can book directly with us without seeing a doctor first.
You can call the clinic, email us, or book an appointment online at a time that suits you.
Initial physiotherapy consultations are 60 minutes. This gives your physiotherapist enough time to discuss your injury or concerns, take a thorough history, complete a comprehensive assessment, and begin treatment during your first appointment.
Follow-up physiotherapy consultations are typically 30 minutes, but 45- or 60-minute appointments are also available where needed. Longer appointments may be recommended for more complex conditions, multiple injuries, or when additional time is required for assessment and treatment.
Remedial Massage appointments are available in 30 or 60 minute sessions, depending on your needs.
Our consultations are generally structured around one main injury, condition or area of concern. This allows your physiotherapist to provide a thorough, unrushed assessment and give your primary concern the attention it deserves.
If you have multiple areas you would like addressed, your physiotherapist may be able to assess or treat an additional area during your appointment, depending on the complexity and time available.
However, there may not be enough time to provide the same level of thorough assessment and treatment for each concern. Our reception team will be happy to help you select the right appointment length.
We accept all major card payment types except American Express (AMEX), as well as cash payments. We have HICAPS available at both of our clinics, allowing you to claim your private health insurance rebate on the spot at the time of your consultation.
You will simply pay the gap between your health fund rebate and our consultation fee. The amount your private health insurer will cover depends on your individual level and type of cover.
If you’re unsure of your rebate, our reception team can check an estimated benefit on the HICAPS machine before processing your claim.
Please note: HICAPS claims can only be processed when payment is made in person and cannot be processed for payments made over the phone.
Yes. Medicare may provide a rebate for physiotherapy for eligible patients with a chronic condition. Under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) or Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, eligible patients can access up to five allied health services per calendar year, which may include physiotherapy.
To access these Medicare-funded sessions, you will need a referral from your GP and must meet the relevant eligibility criteria. At Performance Edge Physiotherapy, eligible patients can access a bulk-billed initial physiotherapy consultation under an EPC/CDM plan.
Any subsequent appointments will be charged at our usual consultation fee, with the applicable Medicare rebate available for the remaining sessions.
For eligible appointments, we process your Medicare claim electronically at the time of payment, so your rebate is generally returned to you within 2 business days.
Please note: Our bulk-billing offer is not available with our Senior Physiotherapists. You are still welcome to see one of our Senior Physiotherapists, pay the standard consultation fee and claim the applicable Medicare rebate.
Yes. We accept patients with Workers Compensation, Compulsory Third Party (CTP), Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding.
We accept Workers Compensation and Compulsory Third Party claims based in the ACT/Canberra, however, we are unable to accept NSW Workers Compensation claims.
If you are unsure whether we can accept your claim or funding arrangement, please contact our reception team before booking and we can assist you.
To help us make the most of your appointment, there are a few things you can do beforehand. Arrive 10 minutes early for your first appointment.
This gives our reception team time to collect any relevant information, referrals or paperwork before you see your physiotherapist, maximising your face-to-face treatment time.
Wear appropriate clothing. Your physiotherapist needs to be able to clearly see and access the area being assessed and treated. We recommend wearing or bringing suitable clothing, such as shorts for a lower limb assessment or a singlet, crop top or comfortable bra for a neck or shoulder assessment.
If your footwear may be contributing to your problem, please bring the shoes you regularly wear for that activity, such as running shoes or football boots.
Bring any relevant medical information or paperwork, including:
- X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, MRIs or other imaging and reports
- Doctor or specialist referrals
- Operation reports or hospital discharge summaries
- Workers Compensation or motor vehicle accident claim numbers and relevant paperwork
- DVA referral (D904) and DVA card
Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) or Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plans
If you are unsure whether you need to bring something, bring it with you or contact our reception team beforehand.
Having all relevant information available helps your physiotherapist provide the most thorough assessment and appropriate treatment.
If you injure yourself over the weekend or outside our business hours (8am–6pm, Monday to Friday), you can book an appointment online at any time.
This is a convenient way to secure an appointment early in the week without having to wait for the clinic to reopen.
If you have sustained a serious injury please do not wait – attend the nearest emergency department.
We generally recommend that a parent or legal guardian attend physiotherapy appointments with patients under 18 years of age.
This helps ensure appropriate consent is provided, protects the privacy and confidentiality of the young person, and ensures parents or guardians receive all relevant information about their child’s assessment and treatment.
If a parent or guardian is unable to attend, your child may still be able to attend their appointment with prior discussion and consent from the parent or guardian.
Please contact our clinic before the appointment to discuss the arrangements with your physiotherapist.
